      <image:title>Welcome - Eliakunda Kaaya - Founder</image:title>
<image:caption>Eliakunda, also known as Ellie, is the youngest of nine children. She became a She’s the First (STF) scholar during her senior year of high school while working with the Kisa Project, STF’S Tanzanian partner. Through Kisa, Ellie grew her leadership skills and developed a strong sense of responsibility towards helping her community. She later went on to volunteer at AfricAid as a substitute Kisa Mentor. When she was in university, Ellie noted a lack of opportunities available for college graduates. Ellie decided to create an entrepreneurship program for her peers. She brought speakers to the school to discuss how they can start their own business. Now Ellie has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and is working for AfricAid as a Kisa Project Mentor, full-time since August 2017. In 2018 Ellie became a She’s the First fellow. In addition to working for AfricAid, she is now running her own organization (Her Journey to School), to fight gender inequality through education and change the status quo. Ellie has been able to partner with Michelle Obama and share her story through being part of the launch of Global Girls’ Alliance. Ellie’s biggest passion while working with Her Journey to School is challenging girls to reach their potential, leading girls to see the potential in themselves, and changing the status quo that violates girls’ right to education. She also hopes to create a forum/platform where communities will understand the importance of educating girls as well as providing them with the necessary materials and tools they need to stay in school. She has an interest in writing, reading books, communicating, and networking with people across the world. She likes traveling, trying new things, and making the world a better place.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Joel is 34 years of age and the oldest son of five children. He attended one of the teaching colleges found in Arusha. He works with Help for the Maasai, an organization established in the interior Maasai land to help the community, particularly girls, through opportunities for their education. In 2011, Joel worked as a deputy head teacher in the Maasai community. When he went back to school to further his education, Joel was given a leadership position of being Head Prefect of the students` council. He worked with Eliakunda when she was elected as Head Girl in the same school. Joel went to one of the universities in Dar es Salaam and pursued a Bachelor of Arts and Education (BA-ED) from 2013 to 2016. Since then, Joel has devoted his efforts to furthering education for girls. He now works as the coordinator for community awareness campaigns at Her Journey to School. His ambition of changing the status quo that prohibits a girl from not staying in school in order to get quality education is what makes him devoted at Her Journey to School. He has interests in writing, reading, listening to powerful speeches, teaching, communicating, and networking. He is a strong believer that, “Human rights are women rights and women rights are human rights.”</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mission - Why Girls?</image:title>
<image:caption>We focus on girls because girls deserve more than they are given. In Tanzania, like in most developing countries, a girl’s educational journey is faced by many challenges and obstacles. She is expected to get married, and may drop out of school because of pregnancy and poverty. We believe that everything good you see in this world is because women have been part of it. Giving girls a chance for an education creates a platform where women can choose who they are and what they want to become. Most importantly, to become the best version of themselves. When women are educated, they are able to change their own lives and the lives of their communities.</image:caption>
